We invite you to visit one of the top 10 tourist attractions in Kyrgyzstan. The Burana Tower is the only architectural structure that has survived to our days from the once majestic ancient city of Balasagun, located 70 km from Bishkek. According to scientists, long time ago here was the ancient city. Some historians believe that this Tower was built in 9th century, while others claim that it appeared even earlier – in the middle of the 8th century.
In 1219 Mongols captured Balasagun but did not destroy it but did destroy the areas surrounding it. It is believed that city fell into decay after the plague and then disappearing not long after.
Clay city buildings were destroyed, so for hundreds of years the city was level with the land. At the beginning of the twentieth century, only Burana Tower remained from the ancient city. During 1927-1928, measures were taken to preserve this historical monument, and in the 1970s complete reconstruction of the tower was carried out.
We invite you to a tour to Burana Complex! Your guide will show you the mausoleums and other buildings discovered by archaeologists during excavations, you will have a chance to climb to the top of the ancient tower, where there is a beautiful view of the Chui valley and the Tien-Shan mountains opens.
